Are Vocational Tech Schools For Dummies?
Figuring out what you want to do with your life, and particularly what career path you want to take is a major decision and one that will affect your future in many ways. It’s not a decision to be taken lightly or made at the spur of the moment. With all the options available, it can be overwhelming to start headed down a path, even once you know where you want to end up!
Traditionally, society was rather divided on the issue of education. Those who could afford it and who valued a broad education would attend a university to gain general education and eventually earn a degree that would start them on a rewarding career path. The poorer classes were much more likely to jump into any job that presented itself, or the occupation that their parents had followed.
For the lower classes, this usually meant being excluded from higher education and learning their trade mostly based on apprenticeship, and sometimes training at trade schools, where general education was not taught. A change has taken place, though, and these days more and more people, rich and poor, are attending these very types of vocational tech schools.
Technical vocational schools have been steadily gaining popularity as the subjects and career fields that are covered by them have grown. You no longer have to want to be an auto mechanic or blacksmith to attend. There are courses covering some of the most prestigious jobs on the market.
The reason for the shift and the range of tech vocational schools available has a lot to do with the advancement of technology and the demand for highly skilled workers in an increasing number of jobs. It is recognized that learning about the humanities may not be very critical to those in information technology, and a more specific or specialized education can yield a more knowledgeable or capable employee.
So the gap has narrowed, or possibly even closed. Vocational tech schools aren’t only for those working in the simpler trades. Those interested in careers in computer technology, medical fields, and many others can gain the detailed training that can make them a more valuable employee than someone with what would have been considered a more prestigious degree.
Fortunately the stigma associated with vocational tech schools has died down and more people and employers see the value of this type of training program. This means that it is easier than ever to work toward a career in the field of your choice, no matter what your circumstances.
For those just setting out on a career path, whether straight from high school, or having turned off a less satisfying path, gaining the skills necessary to succeed in the career of your choice can be done most efficiently at technical vocational schools.
